Baking Class

The course is run by master baker Phillippa Larbi who will share her expert knowledge, tips and tricks towards creating the perfect showstopping event cake. 

Programme

1. The foundations: The Equipment and Baking
2. Cake Design and Timetable
3. Introduction to Buttercream
4. Preparing the cake for decoration: Torting and simple syrup
5. Filling, stacking and damming
6. Crumb Coating
7. Frosting and achieving a smooth finish
8. Watercolour decoration/ Mountainscape Design
9. Isomalt sails/ Floral Handling

The class will start at 10.30am and will conclude around 3.30/4pm. Please make sure you are here on time as time is very limited on this class. I would like to have some time at the end of the day to take photos of our work but let me know if you need to head off earlier and I will photo shoot your cake a little earlier for you. 

Refreshments and a lunch will be provided throughout the day. I am a tea drinker (earl grey and rooibos) so if you are a coffee drinker let me know so I have some available for you. Please also let me know if you have any specific dietary requirements. 

I would suggest that you bring a notebook and a pen. I will be giving you lots of details so you may want to be able to write some things down. You will also need a biggish carrier bag to take your cake home if you are coming by public transport. Your cake will be in an 8 inch square tall cake box so your bag should fit these dimensions. 

During the class, I am more than happy for you to take photos or film the demonstration as you need. However, please bear in mind that this is a carefully crafted course based on what I have learned over 5 years of baking and decorating and I would like to operate this class on the basis of trust. So I would ask that you don’t share any videos you make in the class. 

The class will take place at my home, 16 Bridge Avenue, Hanwell, W7 3DJ. Buses E3 and E1 stop on Greenford Avenue close to my house. You will need the stop just before Elmbank Way.
